Rajasthan

Rajasthan literally the “Land of Kingdoms” or the “Land of kings”. Rajasthan is the India’s largest state by the area. It is located on western side of the country where it comprises of the wide Thar Desert also known by the name of “Rajasthan Desert” and the “Great Indian Desert” and it also shares the bordered with the Pakistan with Sutlej Indus River valley. It is also bordered by the Indian states Gujarat to south west, Madhya Pradesh to south east, Uttar Pradesh and the Haryana to the north east and the Punjab to north. The main features include the ruins of Indus Valley Civilization at the Kalibanga, Dilwara Temples, the Jain Pilgrimage site at the Rajasthan’s only hill station, Mount Abu in the Aravalli mountain range and in the eastern side of Rajasthan, the Keoladeo National Park near the Bharatpur, the world Heritage Site also known for its bird life.



The State was formed on the 30th March 1949 when the Rajputana the name was adopted by the British Raj for the dependencies in the region. It was merged into the Dominion of the India. Rajasthan capital and the largest city is Jaipur and it is located on the eastern side.

Rajasthan is well connected with many national highways. Most renowned being the NH 8 which is the India’s first four-eight Lane Highway. Rajasthan also have an inter-city surface transport system both in the terms of the Railway and the bus network. All the major cities are connected by the rail, road and air.


Rajasthan is culturally rich and has an artistic and the cultural traditions which reflect ancient Indian way of the life. There is rich and the diverse folk culture from the villages which are often represented and it is symbolic of the state.
Cities of Rajasthan:

1. Jaipur:

Jaipur is the capital and the largest city of Indian state of the Rajasthan in the Northern India. It was found on the 18 November 1727 by the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of the Amber after whom the city was named. The city today has the most population of around 3.1 million. Jaipur is also known as the Pink City. Jaipur is the most famous tourist destination in Rajasthan and India.

2. Udaipur

Udaipur is the city, the municipal corporation and the administrative headquarters of the Udaipur district in the state of Rajasthan in the western India. It is located 403 Kilometres southwest of the state capital, Jaipur and the 250 km northeast from the Ahmadabad. Udaipur is historic capital of Kingdom of Mewar and its capital was shifted from Chittorgarh to the Udaipur. After founding the city by Maharana Uday Singh of Udaipur. 3. Bikaner:

Bikaner is the city in northwest of the state of Rajasthan in the northern India. Bikaner is located 330 kilometres north west of state capital, Jaipur. Bikaner city is administrative headquarters of the Bikaner District and the Bikaner Division. Bikaner was formerly the capital of Princely state of Bikaner. Bikaner city was founded by the Rajput Rao Bika ji.

4. Kota

Kota is also known as Kotah. Kota is the third largest city in northern Indian state of Rajasthan after the Jaipur and the Jodhpur. Kota is located 240 kilometres south of the Jaipur, state capital. It is situated on the bank of the Chambal River and has been also identified as the counter-magnet city for the National Capital Region to attract the migrants and develop it as an alternative centre of growth to the Delhi. Kota is 47th most populous city of India.
Kota is also famous for its coaching institutes for the engineering and the medical entrance exams. Kota is also known as the "Education City of India".

5. Alwar

Alwar is the city and the administrative headquarters of the Alwar District in the Indian state of the Rajasthan. Alwar is located around 160 km south of the Delhi and about the 150 km north of the Jaipur, the capital of the Rajasthan. It is the part of National capital Region. At Alwar, India’s highest ever recorded temperature of 50.6 °C was measured on 10 May 1956. Alwar was formerly the capital of the princely state of Alwar.
