Goa popularly known as Rome of the East, capital of the historical Portuguese eastern empire (1510 to 1910), currently the Republic of India's smallest state by the area and presently has fourth smallest population. It is located in the Western part of the Indian subcontinent as numerous islands and provinces in the region generally called as the Konkan strip, it is bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north and by the Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its entire western coast. Goa is India's richest state with a GDP per capita two and a half times that of the country as a whole.



Panaji is the state’s capital, old Goa called as the Velha Goa is the former capital and the Vasco da Gama is the largest city with the historical port, presently it is occupied with the migrants from all over the Republic of India. Goa is a former Portuguese province; the Portuguese overseas territory of Portuguese India existed for about 450 years until it was annexed by the Republic of India in 1961.
The Large numbers of international and the domestic tourists (Indian) visit Goa every year for its beaches, places of worship and world heritage architecture. Goa also has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on Western Ghats range which is classified as a biodiversity hotspot.

Climate:

Goa features the tropical monsoon climate under the Köppen climate classification. Goa, being in the tropical zone and near the Arabian Sea has hot and humid climate for most of the year. The month of May is hottest, seeing day temperatures of over 35 °C (95 °F) coupled with high humidity. The monsoon rains arrive by the early June and provide much needed respite from the heat. Most of Goa's annual rainfall is received through the monsoons which last till late September.

How to travel:

By Air:

Goa International Airport, is the civil enclave at INS Hansa, the Naval airfield located at Dabolim near Vasco da Gama. The airport caters to scheduled domestic and international air services.

By road :

Goa's public transport largely consists of privately operated buses linking to the major towns to rural areas. Government-run buses, maintained by theKadamba Transport Corporation, link major routes (like the Panjim–Margao route) and some remote parts of the state.

By rail:

Goa has two rail lines : one run from the South Western Railway and the other from the Konkan Railway. The line run by the South Western Railway was built during the colonial era linking the port town of Vasco da Gama, Goa with Belgaum,Hubli, Karnataka via Margao.

Arambol: This is one city in Goa where can live fairly well on very little money. It is also a one place that hosts rocking parties. 

Canacona: located in the South District of Goa, Canacona was ceded to the Portuguese by the Raja of Sund in the treaty of 1791. The Canacona district was among the last parts of the territory to be absorbed into the Novas Conquistas, and has retained a distinctly Hindu feel.
